TSBE leads trade mission to Singapore

Jun 24, 2024

From September 22 to 28, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise Food Leaders Australia will lead a Market Connections Tour to Singapore. The tour will showcase the opportunities and benefits of doing business with Singapore, a major regional hub for multinational businesses operating in Asia and a highly developed trade-oriented market economy.

The tour is set to coincide with Toowoomba’s display at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, a collaborative project between Gardens by the Bay, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, Toowoomba Regional Council and Southern Queensland Country Tourism. The project will feature an 850m² horticulture display spotlighting the Toowoomba Region, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, regional fresh produce, and Indigenous culture.

A second trial shipment of plants left Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport for Singapore on Tuesday, June 18. The display, which will run from September to November, marks the first time that such an opportunity has been extended to a region in Australia. Singapore ranks as the world’s easiest place to establish a business, with a pro-business government and a transparent and reliable economic and regulatory environment.

Australia is Singapore’s fifth largest trading partner and Australian products enjoy a premium position in the market, especially in areas where Australia has strengths: service-related industries, advanced engineering and manufacturing, and technology. As Singapore depends heavily on imported agricultural products and has increased focus on food safety and sustainability, the demand for Australian products is growing.

Consumers value Australian products as high quality and organic, natural and healthy products can command higher prices and position their brands in a premium segment. The tour will include in-market buyer matching, site visits and networking events to help participants explore trade and commerce opportunities and progress commercial industry outcomes.

Participants will also learn about doing business in Singapore, enjoy geo-political briefings, cultural experiences, and visits to some of Singapore’s most iconic destinations. TSBE’s General Manager - Food Leaders Australia Rowie Beveridge says, “We are truly excited to showcase our region’s strengths and potential. This tour will be an unforgettable experience for any business interested in expanding their horizons and discovering new opportunities.”

This is a unique opportunity for regional businesses and stakeholders to network, learn and explore one of the most dynamic and diverse markets in Asia. Expressions of interest for the tour close on Friday, July 19. • For more information and to register, visit www.tsbe.com. au/singapore-market-connections-tour-2024
